Unfortunately NSW Health has NOT deemed it necessary to regulate this industry, which means that anyone from any walk of life can open and operate a colonic facility and give colonics. This makes it a very dangerous procedure, as many performing colonics have no Medical qualifications, and know little if anything about Infection Control. There have been reports made to the HCCC regarding unsafe practice, and they are aware of at least 6 people contracting Hep C from visiting a clinic where, due to lack of knowledge adequate Infection Control has not been followed.
